Promon Engenharia joins benchmark group for Ethos social responsibility indicators

Ten top-scoring companies out of almost 1,500 seen as embodying best practice in social and environmental spheres

Promon Engenharia, a Promon Group company that specializes in project development, consulting, design, integration and implementation of infrastructure solutions for key economic sectors, has joined the benchmark group for the Ethos social responsibility indicators, consisting of the ten top-scoring companies on this criterion in a universe of some 1,500.

The Ethos indicators serve as a tool for internal use in assessing the company’s overall business performance, and particularly its corporate social responsibility and environmental management practices. The assessment covers seven broad themes: Values, Transparency & Governance, Workforce, Environment, Suppliers, Consumers & Customers, Community, and Government & Society.

“Since 2002 Promon has conducted comparative assessments using the Ethos indicators to measure the stage reached by its social responsibility practices. Our scores have steadily improved all these years, and now we have joined the benchmark group. I believe this reflects Promon’s use of these data as a management tool. We are concerned less with the final score than the processes that enable us to achieve these results,” says Fábio Risério, Manager, Social Responsibility, Promon.

According to Risério, the Ethos indicators enable companies to elaborate a clearer vision of the concepts of social responsibility and sustainability. “Without a benchmark these concepts become vague, and it’s harder for companies to achieve concrete improvements however much they try,” he says. The indicators are also important in disseminating best practices in corporate social responsibility. “A good example is the care Promon takes to foster the implementation of best practices in CSR by its suppliers. Indeed, this is one of the items measured by the Ethos indicators. If you do that, you create a knock-on effect whereby the spread of best practices eventually benefits the whole society,” he says.

The assessment process used to measure the Ethos indicators involves participation by all staff and a wide-ranging reflection on the stage reached by the company in terms of environmental and social responsibility. This process involves professionals in Human Relations, Procurement, Environment, and Communication, among others.
