Promon wins Top of Mind award for Project Management
- 12/15/2006

Promon, a Brazilian company dedicated to project development, consulting, integration and implementation of infrastructure solutions for key sectors of the economy, has won first place in a contest called “Top of Mind in Project Management”. The award is an initiative of the Rio de Janeiro chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI-RJ), a professional association focused on promoting best practice in project management worldwide.

The 2006 Top of Mind award resulted from a nationwide benchmarking survey by PMI-RJ, which evaluated 280 leading Brazilian companies on eight critical items relating to project management: organizational culture, organizational structure, project portfolio management, project management office, processes and methodologies, professional development, support tools, and performance and results. This was the fourth edition of the award.

Promon and Petrobras were the most frequently cited names in response to the survey question, “When you think of excellence in project management, what is the first company that comes to mind?” CVRD (Companhia Vale do Rio Doce) and IBM tied for second place. HP came third.

According to Eduardo Cardoso, executive director of Promon Tecnologia, the PMI taxonomy for project management establishes a highly appropriate framework for evaluating generic processes and knowledge areas. Promon has developed its own more detailed methodology based on this body of knowledge, with comprehensive controls, benchmarks and classifications suited to different sectors, cultures, organizations and geographies.

“The award reaffirms our leading position in project management,” he explains. “One of Promon’s key differentials in the market is precisely our dual capability in design and project management. Our day-to-day activities entail transforming PMI concepts into customized tools and continuously enhancing them through practical application. Systematic modeling of control events enables the resulting knowledge to be shared across the entire organization.”

Another distinguishing characteristic of Promon is its strategy of partnering with global technology suppliers. “We make sure the right ideas are rapidly accepted and consolidated by using the PMI-based framework,” he says. “The advantage of interacting with global organizations is that we can exchange experience and accelerate learning.”
